NADCAR News 2009
6/29 - The upcoming Friday Night Race at PVR will not be a points race. It was determined that the club precedent in past has been not to include holiday weekend races within the points championship. The note in the schedule on this site was inadvertently left off. Friday Night's show will be 100% payback.
6/27 - Great racing at PVR this Saturday Night produced yet another first time heat race winner. John Ogden lived up to his Speedy Gonzalez character and shot from the outside front row in the first heat to hold off two time NADCAR points champion Mike Williams for the win. Mike Bracy took home another heat race win for the year in heat two just ahead of the #32 Coupe of Cliff Lee. Pat Henesey starting from the back row of heat three predicted he would lead the field by the end of lap one. His wife, Helen, had something to say about that as she ran up front early in the heat. Helen had to give the top spot up on lap 3 as her car had ignition trouble and didn't have the power to hold off Pat. Guess who her mechanic is.
The two wide main event lineup took the green with the outside lane on the move as the inside lane got bottled up. Cliff Lee's #32 Yamaha FJ 1200 powered Dwarf Car Co. Coupe found the early line to lead the field. Mike Dunn got a rare start from row 4 to pull into second and stalked Cliff for the first 12 laps looking for a mistake. While the two leaders stayed steady at the front, the remainder of the field put on a show of position swapping for the big crowd in attendance. Mike Williams moved his way into third. The mistake from Cliff coming off turn four was all Dunn needed to run it in side by side with Cliff into one. Dunn edged out Cliff on the back straight for the top spot. Mike Williams found his way around Cliff and put a target on Dunn. An inside move in turn two by Williams just as his steering u-joint failed almost sent both trucks into the back straight wall. Dunn regained control and the lead until the checkered flag. Mike Moyer still driving with a fractured left arm takes yet another second place finish with Cliff Lee holding onto third.
6/20 - With a huge car count at PVR, the track was unable to hold together and the NADCAR main event proved to be more about racing the track than the other competitors. Mike Williams and his "Long Travel Special" Williams Built dwarf truck took the lead by the end of lap one and never looked back. The only question was for second place. Mike Bracy held second up until a last corner attempt at the lead when he looped it around in the very difficult conditions. Pat Henesey, Mike Moyer, Butch Dunn, Tim Cotherman, and hard charging Brian Comley were all in one tight race for the last podium position. The spin by Bracy sent cars four wide off of turn four heading to the checkered flag for the abbreviated 15 lap main event trophies.
6/13 - 16 cars showed up for battle Saturday night at Thunder Raceway. The very quick trophy dash was taken by Pat Henesey out of Flagstaff, AZ.
The heat races followed with Tim Cotherman taking the first one, followed by Mike Bracy and Heather Henesey. Steve Kapaun, all the way from Surprise, AZ took heat #2 with "the pinball" car of Mike Witt finishing in 2nd. Pat Henesey got his second win of the night in heat #3, he drove through the pack to finally pass his wife Helen for the win.
The Main Event was a huge crowd pleaser! The green to checker race had Helen Henesey leading the first 3 laps, until George Cooke stole the lead coming out of turn 2. The rest of the pack was coming fast, with Tim Cotherman, Pat Henesey, and "The Wild" MIke Bracy all fighting for position. For the last 5 laps, the field was trying to catch Mr. Cooke, Pat Henesey was working the high line, Tim Cotherman was running low and Helen Henesey was fighting for her spot right in the middle. George Cooke took the white flag, with 2 lapped cars quickly approaching, George dove low and ended up loosing all power when another car ran into the back of his car. It was a mad dash by the pack to the checkered flag, 3 and 4 wide with lapped traffic mixed in. The crowd was on their feet as Tim Cotherman brought his 40 ford Truck across the line inches ahead of Pat and then Helen Henesey. Mike Bracy pulled out a 4th with Heather Henesey rounding off the top 5. Word from the stands is that a blanket would have covered the top 7 finishers as well as 3 lapped cars coming out of turn 4 for the finish. Very exciting!!!
6/13 - The Team Henesey consistency is paying off as Pat, Heather, and Helen are all leading the points championship. The Coconino Motors sponsored trucks continue to run in the top of the main events this year and rack up the points toward yet another championship for the Henesey family. NADCAR Membership has reached 49 total this year already.
6/6 - A field of 29 racers showed to PVR this past Saturday. Jeremiah Tatum traveled from Kanab, Utah to race with the NADCAR Club. With a strong Semi Main run, Jeremiah transferred to the A Main and posted a 16th place finish. Congratulations to Melanie Williams for driving the AZ Concrete Cutting sponsored #39 Pickup to her first ever heat race win. THE MAIN EVENT - After the mayhem of the first few laps settled, Brian Comley was leading the pack with Mike Bracy looking for a way around. Mike Dunn worked his way through the field to battle with Comley and Bracy. With 10 laps to go Dunn took the lead and set out for the checkered flag. Tim Cotherman (Semi main winner) brought his new Dwarf Car Company 40 Ford Pickup up to 2nd place. Bracy held on for third.
5/23 - The race at PVR scheduled for May 23 has been cancelled due to inclement weather. PVR will be hosting a test n tune session on Sunday May 24 from 2pm to 6pm if the track dries enough. Stay tuned to the PVR website for more details.
5/11 - All of the NADCAR drivers who made the trek to Thunder Raceway were treated to a smooth, fast and exciting race track! Storm Phillips took the early lead in the first heat while the two Henesey girls chased him down turn by turn. Storm's motor sadly expired on the front stretch of the second lap letting the two Henesey's battle for the win with Jimmy Davis challenging at every turn. Heather Henesey drove her #11 '40 Ford Dwarf truck to the checkered flag to take the win ahead of her Mom, Helen Henesey, with Jimmy Davis coming in a close 3rd. The 2nd heat began with Pat Henesey taking the early lead ahead of the quick Tim Cotherman in his brand new JBJ Trucking Pick Up. Pat slipped up one to may times coming out of turn two which allowed Cotherman to capitalize and take the lead and the heat win, he was followed closely by Pat Henesey and Mike Bracy. Helen Henesey lead the pack for the fast green to checker event in Show Low. Helen Henesey kept her Coconino Motors '40 Ford Dwarf Truck in front for the first half of the race with Tim Cotherman knocking at every turn, while a fast Pat Henesey tried to work his way through the pack. Helen was caught by surprise when Tim Cotherman set her up perfectly with a text book pass on lapped traffic coming out of turn 2 to take the lead and Thunder Raceway's first Main Event Win of the Year!! Pat Henesey finished 2nd with Mike Bracy coming in 3rd, Helen Henesey took 4th just ahead of Heather Henesey in 5th. Frank Phillips beat Jimmy Davis to the line to take 6th and 7th ahead of the quick Mike Witt and an always exciting Chris Goodin. Show Low's Randy Deines took 10th with Scott Cardella taking 11th in his first ever dwarf car main event!!
5/10 - We will be updating the Championship Points after every race. Click on the link to view. We also have another spread sheet showing drivers listed in order of their Points Averages. Click here to view. Your points average comes into play for your starting position in the main event. All drivers that transfer into the inversion of the main event start in the order of their points average with the lowest average of the group starting on pole. The one exception is if the winner of the previous main event is within this inversion transfer, he/she starts at the rear of the inversion. The inversion is based on the top 3 or 4 finishers within each heat race depending on the number of entries. Click here to read the rule.
5/6 - Thunder Raceway is now a NASCAR Sanctioned Track and will host this weekends NADCAR Event. NADCAR members will not be required to pay the NASCAR membership fee at Thunder Raceway. NADCAR members will only be required to pay the standard gate entry and pill draw as usual. NADCAR club membership is required.

1st place - Matt Decker
5/2 - Many firsts for the NADCAR members at Prescott Valley Raceway for the fourth points race of the year. 16 Year old Matt Baldwin, driving in his first full rookie season, started the night by driving his Dad's #8 to the first heat race win of his career. And when the mud stopped flying from the feature NADCAR event, Matt Decker was standing on top in victory lane with his first NADCAR Main Event WIN. Mike Moyer Still knocking on the door for his first NADCAR win with a strong second place drive. Mike Dunn rounded out the podium with third. The other three heat race winners were Cliff Lee in his #32 Coupe with Trades Contracting sponsorship, the 40 Ford Pickup of Mike Dunn, and Mike Williams with the AZ Concrete Cutting #2 Pickup. Mike Moyer grabbed the B main and Melanie Williams drove to an impressive 2nd place. At the drivers meeting, Butch Dunn was acknowledged for his 10 lap track record run during the prior Saturdays Semi Main Event.
4/25 - Opening night at Prescott Valley Raceway was a success due to 33 driver NADCAR lineup. Drivers from around the state and some new enthusiastic rookies put on another great show for the crowd. A last lap pass in heat race one by Mike Dunn to edge out new driver Rick Godsey as they split a lapped car started the night out with some excitement. Fresh off his rookie season, Mike Shivers, driving the Williams Built Dodge Truck, almost captured his first race win, but Matt Decker got around on the last lap for the win in heat two. Heat race three developed into a huge 6 car battle with Pat Henesey edging out the Moyer's Heating & Cooling car of Mike Moyer. Mike Williams takes heat race four with Russ Hardy driving another Williams Built chassis in second and Steve Dunn transferring directly to the main in third.
NADCAR posted up two B Main events to fill the field for the final. Butch Dunn worked his way past Heather Henesey to take the win with Mike Bracy and Brian Comley making the transfer. B Main two saw the Gareld Hardy Rent A Car being driven by Dan Durnez win and JBJ Trucking backed Tim Cotherman, Jack Defibaugh, and Chris Goodin transfer to the main event.
As the 21 car field rolled to the green, Steve Dunn on the pole with brother Mike on the outside, it was just a matter of who lifted off the throttle last. Mike drove it into turn one just slightly deeper and came out with the lead as they headed down the back straight. With only 2 cautions for minor tangles, plenty of positions changed behind the leader with Steve Dunn, Matt Decker, Mike Moyer, Dan Durnez, and Fred Defibaugh all trading spots trying to get a shot at the #67 Dwarf Car Company Truck of Mike Dunn. Taking a couple hits to his rear bumper, Mike never gave up the inside and was determined to be challenged only on the outside. The challenge never came. Steve Dunn fought back to second, and Fred Defibaugh rounded out the top three going to victory lane. Pat Henesey retains his points lead with another good finish in fourth.
4/13 - Mohave Valley Raceway provided another perfect track for NADCAR's second event of the year! Heat race 1 started with Mike Williams driving to victory over Mike Moyer, and Helen Henesey. Heat two provided a great battle between Pat Henesey and Tim Cotherman in his brand new #43 Dwarf Truck. Pat held off the persistent Tim for the second heat race win of the night. The third heat went to Steve Dunn visiting us all the way from North Carolina with Heather Henesey coming in second followed by Storm Phillips
Mike Williams and Helen Henesey lead the field to the green flag for the 20 lap main event. After a few restarts, Mike Williams was finally able to check out from the field taking a large lead over the pack with the charging Mike Moyer, Pat Henesey, Helen Henesey and Gareld Hardy. With very few caution flags being thrown, the leader, Mike Williams, had his large lead erased when he couldn't dodge a spun & stationary car in turn 4 fast enough! With only five laps to go Pat Henesey and Mike Moyer were right there to capitalize on the mistake by very quickly choosing on using a different line to avoid the traffic and take the positions. Pat Henesey finally found his way back to victory lane with Mike Moyer and Mike Williams following for a close 2nd and 3rd for the night. The top 10 was rounded out with Gareld Hardy in 4th, Storm Phillips in 5th, and Helen Henesey, Brian Comley, Heather Henesey, Melanie Williams, Russ Madden following. The "Best of 12" races format should lead to some exciting battles throw out the season!!
Next race will be the season opener at PVR. Looking forward to the new track surface for some exciting racing! Don't forget that PVR has a scheduled practice this Saturday.

3/11 - What a great season opener for NADCAR! 18 cars showed up for the action at our new track in Mohave Valley Raceway with the long tow award going to Randy Deines all the way from the White Mountains ! Included in the field were the new rookie contenders #60 Russ Madden, #7 Matt Baldwin, and #2 Rick Smith. The night started out with Brian Comley taking the first win and Mike Dunn coming in second with Roy Baldwin in a close 3rd. The second heat followed with an exciting battle between Jack Defibaugh and Pat Henesey, with Jack edging out Pat to the checkered flag and Mike Williams following a close 3rd. The 3rd heat race had Matt Decker driving his #18 ride to a 1st place finish followed by Fred Defibaugh and Melanie Williams rounding out the top 3.
The main event started heads up style with Brian Comley and Jack Defibaugh leading the field to the green for the 20 lap main event. It was a fast track with great racing throughout the pack, which ended up leading to a few cautions, but overall a very competitive night! Suprisingly the winner of the night was involved in the first crash, but managed to get back on the track and fight for the victory! Mike Dunn knows how to put on a good show, working his way through the pack to take over the lead with 10 laps to go and drove to victory! Mike Moyer, Pat Henesey, Heather Henesey and Fred Defibaugh rounded out the top 5 with Roy Baldwin, Chris Goodin, Randy Deines, Matt Baldwin and Melanie Williams finishing out the top 10.
The next NADCAR event will also be at Mohave Valley Raceway on April 4th, the weather and track should be even better than this past weekend!! See you all there!!

The general meeting vote produced only one new rule. The points system will be altered slightly to allow each racer to use the "Best of" 12 races to determine his or her points total for the year. The details of the new system are still being worked out and will be posted here prior to the 09' season. Butch Dunn stepped up and volunteered as the President for the 09' season and Frank Phillips will fill the Vice President position.
